Hermes is also reported to have stolen fifty sacred cows from Apollo's herd -he hid the theft by forcing the cows to walk backwards in order to produce reversed tracks. The Homeric Hymn to Hermes describes him as the son of Zeus and the nymph Maia, locates his abode in a cave of Cyllene, and ascribes to him the invention of the lyre, made from a tortoise shell. The ancient authors show the Peloponnesus as the most ancient and important environment where Hermes' cult had developed, but inscriptions and monuments show him worshiped everywhere in the Greek world. White was last seen on Broadway as Matron “Mama” Morton in “Chicago.” Her previous stage credits include “Dreamgirls,” “Once on This Island,” “Cats” and “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.” In 1997, White won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in “The Life.” White received another Tony nomination in 2010 for “Fela!” Reid will play his final performance on Sept. Oliver Reid, who stepped into the role in June following André De Shields’ departure.
White, a Tony and Daytime Emmy Award winner, will begin performances on Sept. When she begins, White will become the first female-identifying actor to play the role. Lillias White is set to join the Tony-winning musical “Hadestown” in the role of Hermes.
